Let The Second Half of Our Year Journey Begin!

After a short stop in Colorado we were off to start the second half of our year long journey.  To break up our long trip to Oceania we decided to make some stops along the way.  We spent my big 4 0 celebration on the Hawaiian island of Maui before hopping over to Kauai.  After that stop our updated itinerary would take us to Palau, Saipan and then to Guam before catching a short 4.5 hour flight to Cairns, Australia.

We arrived in Maui and then booked our stay.  Luckily we were able to find a place on airbnb.com with this awesome view.  The hump back whales were passing through and this condo offered us a great vantage point for excellent views of the breaching whales.

Our friend Kirk in Kauai was generous enough to let us stay in his house while he was away in Chicago.

After about 5 years it was nice to return to the Mermaid Cafe in Kapaa, Kauai for some fish tacos and most especially the nori, tuna wrap.

Hi Kirk!  Thanks for letting us stay in your beautiful home.  It was much appreciated.

We went to Poipu, but Hanalei and the surrounding area remained our favorite.  We were lucky enough to be one of a small handful of people that were on many of the beaches we visited near the Hanalei side.

After about 10 days on the islands we boarded the United Airlines flight that took us safely to Guam and then on to Palau.
